With the recent introduction of Xenon (zeenon) and latter day illegal Halogen light bulbs being fitted to new cars, the dangerous piercing glare of oncoming headlights has become even more hazardous than they were in the past, especially whilst driving in the dark on motorways and unlit country lanes these headlights have the appearance they are on full beam when in fact their not.

It now seems to be the latest craze on “How to annoy other driver’s”, as more and more drivers are driving continuously with their headlights on full beam?

Despite being illegal, it appears that drivers embarrassed driving their old cars, have decided to drive with their headlights on full beam, thus giving the “appearance” from a distance, that their driving a newer model car than they really are, the ‘full beam’ is to trick the observer into believing they are viewing a ‘new’ car with ‘Xenon or Halogen’ headlights on, instead of an old clapped motor vehicle they are trying to mask by this ridiculous, dangerous new fad which seems to be growing, and which results in temporarily blinding any oncoming drivers and their passengers. www.seesafer.co.uk

Like everything else car headlights have undergone an amazing change over the years. In earlier days car headlights were two similar lights placed in front part of the car.

This is so because new sources of light have been invented. There are halogen headlights, LED headlights, Xenon headlights which are very bright. The reflectors behind them have also been modified. With these one can control the beam of light. It can be moved up or down. The light can be directed where you want it. You can see farther ahead on the road. It makes driving on the road much safer.

The LED headlights are the latest innovation. Although LED tail lights have been around for a while LED headlights were not yet available because they need to be quite powerful. But now that such powerful LED lights are available new possibilities have emerged. These lights use less power and being small they can be located all over the front of the car and not as just two lights.

If there is a single car component that leaves a lasting impression more than most other components then it is the car’s headlights. Just as the eyes are the most expressive part of a human face the car’s headlights are its most expressive component.

It is for this reason that the headlights have been the focus of intense creativity and innovation. This has meant over the years headlights have evolved a lot. From being a simple lamp decades ago they are now a highly engineered product with diverse capabilities.

The modern headlights now consist of more than one bulb. The beam is projected by computer designed reflector profiles for optimal illumination of the road. The headlights can be adjusted to customize the height at which the beam is thrown. Along with the engineering and functionality of the headlights the styling has advanced a lot as well.

Wrap around headlights that dominate the front looks of the car have been the rage in the last few years. So have we reached the pinnacle of how good headlights can get? Well not quite. The next big innovation is LED headlights.

Car headlights have undergone sweeping changes over the years. They are much brighter now. Some of them have a tinted light and in general their beam is also better directed so you get improved visibility at night. You can see further down on the road. You can now adjust the direction of beam from inside your car. And some headlights even have small wipers on them to keep the lights clean. Headlights have clearly been the focus of technical experts who look to improve the individual components of a car.

What has lead to all these changes? With the coming in of newer technologies newer sources of light have been invented. At one time there used to be only incandescent filament lamps. Now we have vapor lamps, halogen lights, Xenon lights, LED lights etc. Designers and manufacturers of cars and their accessories have experimented with these various sources to create better and brighter headlights.

Have you traveled in a car without headlights? It is not at all likely. All the cars have headlights. Then what is that about headlights of some cars which makes people excited about them? This is so because headlights are not what they were at one time. They are now an item that imparts style to a car. They herald the arrival of a car from a long distance. So they have become an object of experimentation by the designers of cars and car accessories. Several plans are conceived to make them look more and more attractive. Beautifying headlights is not an end in itself. The ultimate aim is to make the whole car look more attractive. That is what the owners of the car want. Appearances do matter.

However, amongst all this experimentation about the looks of a car, the main purpose of headlights should not be lost sight of. Their contribution to safety on the road has to be kept in view. There have been a number of innovations in this regard as well. There are brighter headlights whose beam is well directed. There are Halogen headlights, LED headlights, Xenon headlights etc. which are brighter. There are better reflectors and better lenses which direct the beam in a better way. Moreover there are projector headlights and halo headlights. All this helps the driver in having a clear view of the road.

A car is made up of hundreds of components. On top of that you may add a few more when you chose to do up your car with car aftermarket products such as body kits and projector headlights. Now all of these hundreds of products are not performing all the while. But the personality of your car is made by those products that are actually performing and also those that are dormant now but will perform at another time.

Depending when the car is being seen the different products will either be dormant or will be performing. For example a stationery car is admired even though the engine is not running. The look of the car will convey information about how the engine is likely to perform. Likewise when it is day time the headlights are not usually required to function. Yet if you have good looking headlights they will exude a confidence and give out the impression that when they work they work very well.

This ability of the car to announce its marvelous engineering abilities without actually putting up a performance is the appeal of the car. When car aftermarket product manufacturers design replacement car headlights they are very keen to make the headlights look appealing. And it is not an empty boast of an appeal, good quality replacement headlights will not just look that they perform well but when it is night they will in fact deliver a great performance.
